The Hammond 44 is the first Melodion that incorporates a built-in Dynamic Microphone (Patent Pending) which creates less mechanical noise compared to an external microphone and an exceptional clear reed sound with H.D. Quality Sound reproduction. This unique microphone creates a very warm and deep sound that can't be matched by an external microphone.
The Hammond 44 incorporates the first 44 note piano style keyboard on a Melodion instrument. The lowest keyboard note is c and ends at g3. This wider range keyboard is especially useful when playing the Acoustic/Electric Melodion in a solo performance.
The keyboard has a slightly shallow key stroke compared to other keyboard products. This aids the musician when fast fingering or glissandos are required.
There are three types of mouthpieces included with the Hammond 44. With the Short mouthpiece and hand-strap, you can play the Hammond 44 upright like a trumpet, or use the Flexible mouthpiece to hold the 44 at arm's length, sling the 44 on like a guitar (with a guitar strap and the included strap buttons). Using the L Joint long mouthpiece you can play it as a table-top instrument, with the option of putting it on top of your organ, piano or synth.
The Hammond 44 is the finest, most deluxe and most versatile Melodion (Keyboard Harmonica) ever produced. Designed in collaboration with leading Harmonica manufacturer Suzuki Musical Inst. Mfg. Co., Ltd. the Hammond 44 offers many unique features that will compliment all facets of music.
Pops, Jazz, Roots, Rock, Country, Blues, Latin, Reggae, World/Ethnic and Folk... the Hammond 44 is perfect for all of these genres.

Important information about your new Hammond Melodion
If this is the first time you have purchased a new Melodion, it is very important you fully understand some of the idiosyncrasies that allow its very unique and recognizable rich sound. The Melodion is an acoustic instrument, and unlike digital keyboards, the pitch of the particular key being played can be changed (or "bent") slightly higher or lower depending on the strength of breath used. This is not a defect! It is a very unique feature the Melodion shares with harmonicas that allow the musician to be very expressive in their playing.
Another important Melodion fact you should know is that cold temperature can affect its pitch. The lower the temperature, the more pitch can shift. Because a Melodion is constructed of metal reeds and various other parts, the amount of the tuning shift can vary from key to key. We highly recommend you allow your Melodion to warm to room temperature before playing it to achieve the highest tuning stability and best overall sound. The duration you allow for stabilization should depend on the length of time your Melodion was subjected to extreme low temperatures. The colder the temperature, the longer period you should provide for stabilization.
Being an acoustic instrument, your Melodion will require tuning from time to time. This is a normal condition and occurs with all types of reed instruments. How often your Melodion will require tuning depends on several factors: - How often you play the instrument and the length of time that you play. - The strength of breath used to play the instrument. Using a hard breath for extended periods may cause one or more keys to detune. Please note that this condition is normal. - The temperature in which the instrument is being played and stored. At our factory, Melodions are tuned at a room temperature of 21" C, with a tolerance of plus or minus 3" C.
